Howler monkeys are always surprising us with just how intelligent they are! We’re starting to wonder if local monkeys are learning that Refuge for Wildlife is a safe haven for orphaned monkeys because the other day an adult male dropped off a baby!

Brenda heard the distress cry of a baby howler, immediately went to investigate, and found the baby in the trees right above the enclosure for our younger orphans. The baby‘s mother was no where to be seen, only an adult male was there. Once he saw that Brenda

had spotted the baby, the adult male quickly jumped to another tree, looked back to make sure the infant wasn’t following, and disappeared into the jungle. Her father had successfully delivered the orphaned baby to the Refuge!

The little one appeared to be healthy, but was very hungry and immediately took 25cc’s of infant formula! Without a mother, this baby was starving and would not have survived in the wild. Now she is safe, sheltered, well-fed, and making new friends at Refuge for Wildlife!

Since this day, her father has been back several times to visit her and the two of them call back and forth to each other and appear to be having a conversation! Is he checking up on her to make sure she’s OK? We think so! We are very pleased to say that little Annie, is doing great and has become close friends with 15 year old Mandy who lets her cuddle with her. Mandy has become a mother-figure and both of them couldn’t be happier!

    Happy endings all around!
